Gold ETF (GLD) Increases Gold holdings 180 tons since end of 2009

The amount of gold held by SPDR Gold Shares /quotes/comstock/13*!gld/quotes/nls/gld (GLD 120.78, -0.17, -0.14%) rose to a new all-time high of 1,313.13 metric tons as of Tuesday’s close, according to the exchange-traded fund’s website. The $52.2 billion ETF has gained 13.2% year to date on higher prices for the precious metal, according to FactSet Research. The fund’s gold holdings have increased by nearly 180 metric tons since the end of 2009.

I would still say the best way to play gold is to buy an emerging low cost producer like GORO or an emerging gold royalty company like BULM.

Disclosure:  LONG GORO BULM
