With Blockbuster’s financial situation becoming dire, analyst John Kraft with D.A. Davidson & Co. in Lake Oswego, Ore., said a possible Chapter 11 filing by the Dallas-based rental giant could escalate store closures and drive consumers to kiosks.

Blockbuster moved even closer to BK after forecasting a ~$200m net loss for the year. This further illustrates the the turn in dvd distribution from brick and mortar to kiosk. Dec. 10 (Bloomberg) — NCR Corp. acquired DVDPlay, an operator of 1,300 movie-rental kiosks, boosting its presence in a market dominated by Coinstar Inc.’s Redbox.
